Tupac Shakur's New Bio Authorized by Mother

December 01, 2010 07:38:04 GMT 'I trust him [author Kevin Powell] and his history of documenting my son's life, and I know he will do the book from his heart,' Afeni Shakur said.

The official life story of slain rap legend Tupac Shakur is heading to bookstores, more than 14 years after his tragic murder. Author Kevin Powell has won the approval from the star's mother, Afeni Shakur, to study Tupac's rise to fame and fortune in the first authorized work about the late icon since he was fatally shot in September 1996.

And Powell reveals he will have lots of memories to draw from for "Tupac Shakur: The Authorised Biography" because he had formed a close bond with the Changes lyricist in the years before his tragic death. In a statement, he says, "It is an honor to write what will be the definitive biography on the life and times of Tupac Shakur, one of the greatest icons in hip-hop and pop culture history."

"Our relationship began when I documented his journey while at Vibe (magazine) in the 1990s. And I will never forget being there at that Las Vegas hospital when Tupac's death was announced. He remains, all these years later, one of the most dynamic and complicated humans I've ever encountered. I will present Tupac as the very whole and multi-layered being he was, as I remember well his asking me, quite prophetically, to be (writer) Alex Haley to his Malcolm X."

Afeni Shakur, Tupac's estate executor, adds: "Kevin Powell is doing this Tupac Shakur biography with my full blessings. I trust him and his history of documenting my son's life, and I know he will do the book from his heart." A release date for the book, to be published by Simon & Schuster, had yet to be announced as WENN went to press.

Michael Jackson's Father Refiles Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Joe Jackson refiled the documents at Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, allegedly seeking damages between $10 million and $500 million.

Michael Jackson's father Joe has refiled a wrongful death lawsuit in California after a federal judge insisted the case needed to be heard in a state court. Joe Jackson launched legal action against the star's personal physician Dr. Conrad Murray in a federal court in August, accusing him of administering a fatal dose of anesthetic Propofol, which led to Michael's death in June 2009.

Jackson alleges he was being supported by the "Thriller" hitmaker at the time of his passing - a claim which gives him the necessary legal standing to pursue a wrongful death suit. U.S. District Judge John F. Walter ruled in November that some of the legal issues needed to be handled in a state court - and Jackson's lawyer refiled the documents at Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday, November 30, according to TMZ.com.

The lawsuit has also been amended to include Applied Pharmacy Services in Las Vegas, a company which allegedly sold Propofol to Murray. Joe Jackson is said to be seeking damages between $10 million and $500 million in the suit for emotional distress, loss of support and "loss of comfort, aid, society and companionship".

Dr. Murray, who has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the star's death, is set to go on trial in January 2011.

Elton John's Husband 'Disgusted' by Extremist's

Extremist's David Furnish was 'deeply saddened to discover that Canadian right-wing extremist religious groups would stoop to such sickening levels.'

Sir Elton John's husband David Furnish was "disgusted and deeply saddened" after learning homosexuals in his native Canada have been targeted by religious extremist groups. The "Rocket Man" served as guest editor of Wednesday, December 10's edition of Britain's The Independent newspaper to mark World AIDS Day, while his partner has written an article about the stigma associated with the disease.

In the piece, Furnish also claims several right-wing religious groups around the world have been brutally targeting homosexuals, with a few extremists allegedly exposing their identities in smear campaigns. And the filmmaker was shocked to discover some of the organizations are based in his native Canada.

In the article, he writes, "Such attitudes are encouraged by conservative religious leaders (backed by funding from right-wing evangelical organizations in the United States and Canada) waging a righteous 'Christian war' against homosexuality to preserve what they see as traditional values and morality."

"I am proud to be a Canadian, but was disgusted and deeply saddened to discover that Canadian right-wing extremist religious groups would stoop to such sickening levels. According to (human rights advocate Dr. Robert Carr), these people feel the Western world has fallen prey to these satanic influences (gay marriage is rightfully legal in Canada) and that they must turn their energies and their pocketbooks towards preserving the sanctity of the developing world. They are solely taking advantage of a part of our world where people are less educated to promote their own evil agenda."

"How this barbarism can exist is beyond my comprehension, but when it is encouraged in the name of Christianity it is truly repulsive. It directly flies in the face of the Christian values of love and forgiveness on which I was raised."

In the meantime, his spouse Elton John feels inspired by so many people seeking treatment for AIDS - because it proves his charity's ongoing awareness drive is working. He established the Elton John AIDS Foundation in the early 1990s to offer support to sufferers of the disease and help promote prevention of the health issue.

Recent figures show a 25 per cent drop in new infections being reported around the world, and Sir Elton is overjoyed with the compelling statistic. As guest editor of The Independent newspaper to mark World AIDS Day, he writes, "In fact, I am compelled not by despair but by hope. I'm heartened by the recent statistics from UNAIDS that tell a promising story - five million people on treatment and a 25 per cent drop in new infections across the worst-affected countries since 2001.

"I'm motivated by the progress that AIDS has quite unintentionally moved forward, rather than the destruction it has left in its wake... despite the chaos AIDS has wrought, it has also resulted in remarkable human compassion and ingenuity.

I am proud that the Elton John AIDS Foundation has contributed to this progress for nearly 20 years. Through the Foundation I have witnessed the ingenuity, the compassion, and the human love that has made a difference, not just in the fight against AIDS, but in all aspects of the complex, globalixed world in which we live."

All revenue from the newspaper's sales will go towards the singer's charity.

R icky Martin Plans to Take Partner to Red Carpet Event

The Puerto Rican star admits he has been in a relationship with someone whom he might introduce to media at a red carpet occasion and whom he wants to get married with.

After admitting that he is gay back in May, Ricky Martin has now promised public that he would introduce his partner at a red carpet event. "We'll walk onto the red carpet together I guess," the "Livin' La Vida Loca" singer told U.S. newsman Larry King on Tuesday, November 9.

Martin, who bares his personal life including his sexuality in new memoir "Me", told King that he has been "in a relationship" and he is "very happy." The 38-year-old star shared, "It's usually very overwhelming to start a relationship... and to be in a relationship with Ricky Martin."

"It gets a little bit more overwhelming for some reason now at this moment in my life when I am presenting my book and everything," he went on. "But you know, we're not afraid of anything, we're not hiding anything."

Martin even admitted that he wants to make his union with his mystery lover official. "I would get married... There are many countries around the world where same-sex marriage is a right. Not in Puerto Rico, unfortunately. And not in many states in America," the singer who will celebrate his birthday next month said.

Although saying that he could wed in Spain or Argentina, Martin is still upset with the lack of the options he has. "Why do we have to go somewhere else? Why can't I do it in my country where the laws are - you know, protecting me?" he mused.

"I can go to Spain. I have many friends in Spain. And get married. And make it very beautiful and symbolic. But... I (can't) do it in the backyard of my house," Martin continued. "I want to have that option. I don't want to be a second class citizen anymore. I pay my taxes. Why can't I have that right?"

Beside talking about his partner and his dream to get married with the loved one, Martin also told King he has been a victim of online bullies ever since he came out. "I am bullied today... It's very weird because, you know, I'm a Twitter fan. And I check my messages all the time, and you can get 100 messages of love. And you're very happy. And then  you get that one message of a hater (sic) and... if you're (having) a bad day it ruins your afternoon. It's so sad that there is still hate out there," Martin said.

Kim Kardashian Turns Into a Blonde Space Hottie

In a new ad of Divinity collection for Beach Bunny Swimwear, Kim transforms her dark brown locks into a shoulder length platinum blonde as she poses as a 'Queen of the Galaxy'.

Kim Kardashian has turned into a blonde beauty in a new ad for her self-designed Divinity collection for Beach Bunny Swimwear. Not only turning her waist length dark brown hair into a shoulder length platinum blonde, but Kim also transformed herself into a space hottie.

In the picture, Kim was seen wearing white two-piece swimsuits and matching it with white knee-high boots. Making the ad more dramatic, the 30-year-old beauty held a big matching space helmet and stood in what appeared to be a deserted planet.

Beside posting the ad on her official blog along with other pictures of beauties modeling the swimwear collection, Kim wrote, "My Divinity Collection was inspired by Jane Fonda in the movie Barbarella, where she plays a super-sci-fi-sexy Queen of the Galaxy!"

"This collection incorporates everything I love in a bikini... shimmer, animal print, side ties in the bottoms," Kim continued. "I even designed a gorgeous chiffon tunic, because every girl needs a fab cover up for the beach."

Kourtney Kardashian Scored an Acting Role on 'One Life to Live'

She may not have the experience to be an actress but the reality star claimed, 'The Kardashians know a thing or two about drama.'

Kourtney Kardashian is following sister Kim Kardashian's footsteps to become a real actress. The oldest of the Kardashian sisters has landed her first acting job where she is not going to play herself.

Kourtney has a guest spot on soap opera "One Life to Live" and she will shoot her first scene on Thursday, November 11. Per E! Online, she would share a frame with David Fumero who plays Cristian Vega, as well as Kassie DePaiva who portrays troublemaker Blair Cramer. Other specifics are kept under the radar.

But it is known that her storyline is not going far from her daily life, drama. "I grew up watching 'One Life to Live'. I hear I get into some trouble and I am looking forward to it," Kourtney said. "This may be my acting debut, but the Kardashians know a thing or two about drama."

The episode would air in March and the filming process would be captured by E!'s cameras for "Kourtney and Kim Take New York".
